Design & Innovation Wing brings together designers and educators in Dehradun to explore the connection between inner awareness and creative excellence

What happens when we look beyond tools, technology and techniques and turn our attention to the most powerful instrument behind every creative endeavour — the human mind?
This question formed the heart of a meaningful gathering of nearly 100 designers, educators, innovators and creative professionals in Dehradun, organised by the Design & Innovation Wing of the Rajyoga Education & Research Foundation, Brahma Kumaris.
The central theme of the gathering was “Spirituality — The Inner Source of Successful Creativity”, exploring how clarity of thought, inner awareness, meditation and purposeful intentions can influence the way we design, innovate and create.
The programme brought together perspectives from design education, industry, leadership and spirituality, creating a unique dialogue between professional creativity and inner development.
Designing Begins Within
Moderating the panel discussion, BK Rupam, Moderator & Coordinator, Design & Innovation Wing, facilitated a dialogue around the relationship between spirituality and creative excellence.
Designing Begins Within
Anuj Prasad, Founder & CEO, Desmania Design Pvt. Ltd. and Member, World Design Organization (WDO), highlighted the importance of maintaining a calm, composed and focused mind.
He emphasised that inner stability can enhance efficiency and decision-making — qualities that are essential for professionals working in fast-changing creative environments.
The broader philosophy of “Design Your Destiny” also resonated throughout the discussion, encouraging participants to look at professional excellence alongside personal growth and self-development.
Design as a Way of Thinking, Living and Becoming
Ms Ekta Singh, Founding Dean, School of Design, DIT University, Dehradun, presented design as much more than a professional tool.
She emphasised that design is a way of thinking, living and becoming.
In design and innovation, everything begins in the mind. The thoughts and ideas we continuously feed our minds influence the lens through which we perceive problems, identify opportunities, generate ideas and ultimately create solutions.
This perspective brought an important dimension to the discussion: the quality of our thinking influences the quality of what we create.
The Human Mind — The Most Powerful Innovation Tool
Sarthak Vohra, Director, Cambridge Hr. Sec. School, Dehradun, reflected on the tendency to associate design and innovation primarily with tools, technology and techniques.
The discussion shifted that focus towards something far more fundamental — the human mind.
Innovation, he highlighted, originates from clarity of thought and inner awareness. When the mind is clear and focused, it becomes more capable of observing deeply, thinking differently and developing meaningful solutions.
“Design Is Not Just What We Create Outside”
One of the central messages of the gathering came from Rajyogini BK Savitha, Founder, Design & Innovation Wing, Mount Abu.
She invited participants to look at design from an inward perspective.
“Design is not just about what we create outside. It is about what we cultivate inside.”
She presented meditation as the art of designing the mind.
According to this perspective, when individuals consciously cultivate discipline, positivity, compassion and clarity within themselves, these qualities naturally begin to influence their actions, relationships, decisions and creative work.
The outer world, therefore, becomes a reflection of the inner world we continuously create.
Inspirations & Blessings
The programme also received valuable insights and blessings from senior members of the Brahma Kumaris.
Rajyogi BK Sushil, Coordinator, Design & Innovation Wing, Dehradun, encouraged participants to reflect on their intentions and attitudes before beginning the process of designing or innovating.
Intentions influence actions, and actions ultimately influence outcomes.
He emphasised that consciously examining one’s inner intentions and mindset before undertaking a creative process can lead to more meaningful and purposeful results.
A calm and silent mind, he shared, creates the space from which creative and meaningful ideas can emerge.
Designing Our Destiny
Rajyogini Manju Didi, Sub-Zone Incharge, Brahma Kumaris, Dehradun, reminded participants of the deeper purpose behind the gathering.
“We are gathered at this summit with the purpose of designing our destiny.”
She reflected on how a well-created design can bring joy and positivity to the people who experience it.
Designers, therefore, have an important role not only in solving problems but also in spreading happiness through creativity.
The gathering also offered participants an opportunity to connect with the Almighty and experience the power of inner silence. Such an inner connection, she explained, can strengthen clarity, creativity and purposeful action.
Innovative Meditation Lab
A special highlight of the programme was the Innovative Meditation Lab, conducted by Rajyogini BK Savitha Didi.
Moving beyond conventional approaches to meditation, the session connected meditation with the realities of professional and creative life.
Participants explored the nature of the mind — a mind that is constantly travelling between thoughts, memories, expectations and possibilities.
Through the experience of meditation and inner awareness, participants were encouraged to understand and manage this movement of the mind.
The session demonstrated how a more stable and aware mind can support greater efficiency, concentration, productivity and creative thinking in professional work.
For designers and innovators, meditation was presented not simply as a spiritual practice, but as a practical method for developing the very instrument through which creativity takes place.
A Powerful Experience for 100 Designers
Around 100 designers and creative professionals participated in the gathering and experienced an atmosphere that brought together design thinking, innovation and spirituality.
The ambience of the programme created an opportunity for participants to step away from the constant demands of professional life and reflect on a fundamental question:
What if the next great design does not begin with a tool — but with a transformed mind?
The gathering demonstrated that innovation is not limited to technology, processes or external resources. At its foundation lies the quality of human consciousness, intention and awareness.
Felicitation & Collective Celebration
The programme also included the felicitation of distinguished guests, presented by Rajyogini BK Meena Didi Ji, followed by a group photograph capturing the collective spirit of the gathering.
The event brought together diverse voices from the design industry, education, leadership and spirituality, creating a shared space for reflection, learning and inspiration.
From Designing Products to Designing Possibilities
The Dehradun gathering reinforced a core philosophy of the Design & Innovation Wing: design has the power to transform not only products, spaces and systems, but also people and society.
When creativity is supported by inner clarity, innovation can become more purposeful.
When design is guided by positive intentions, it can create greater wellbeing.
And when designers learn to consciously design their own inner world, they can begin to Design Their Destiny — and contribute to designing a better world around them.
The Dehradun gathering was therefore not merely a discussion on spirituality and creativity. It was an invitation to look within, rediscover the source of creativity and explore a more conscious approach to Design & Innovation.
The journey of designing the future begins with designing the mind.
